Polish cuisine- mix of traditional, Communist and Western cuisines

There are many persons who were of the opinion that the Polish cuisine will make a comeback after the end of the Communist rule. The Communists believed in uniformity throughout the regime and this meant that Polish cuisine saw input of dishes and ingredients from other countries just because it was a part of the Communist regime.

This forced assimilation combined with the shortage of ingredients meant that traditional dishes were given the short shrift. People preferred putting food on the table by doing what ever it took and this meant that emphasis on traditional ingredients was no longer present.

People thought that the damage would be reversed after the Communist rule ended. What they did not anticipate was that the Western culture, symbolized by McDonalds and Pizza Hut, would enter the picture. Surprisingly, this has actually contributed to the revival of the traditional Polish cuisine. The sight of the pop up stand advertising Pizza Hut on the streets encouraged traditionalists to press for a return to the original cuisine of the country.

What we now have today is a happy mix of original, Communist and Western cuisines in Poland today. If you want to stick to your staple diet of pizzas and carbonated drinks, you can check out the appropriate outlet in the urban areas. You can find changes to the cuisine made in the Communist regime in some dishes in restaurants that cater to the masses.

For traditional food, just visit the home of a friend or relative in Poland where you can find the tastiest dishes that has withstood the ravages of time. The traditional food did not die out. It just dipped out of public view simply because of lack of ingredients. Today, this problem has been taken care of and this is the reason why the traditional dishes are back in fashion again.
